Youngstown, PA – A 41-year-old woman has been charged with assault after she beat a child she was babysitting with a belt, as reported by WPXI.com on Friday, July 30, 2010.
Police in Youngstown said the beating occurred at a home on Bethel Church Road. According to reports, Gail Schauf was babysitting a nine-year-old boy who, during a stint of rebellion, locked the woman out of the house.
After the furious babysitter regained entry into the home, she took the boy into a bedroom, held him down on the bed and beat him with a belt. According to the police, she lashed his face, back, arms, legs, torso and head.
State Trooper Steve Limani commented, “You are allowed to discipline your child, a child however, absolutely not when it comes to causing severe pain or any kind of impairment…That’s when you’ve crossed the line and clearly in this case there was a crossing of the line.”
The child was transported to an area hospital after the severe lashing. Police said he suffered bruises, welts and red marks all over his body.
