Kenya – An increase in mobile phone use has led to changes in communication throughout the African country Kenya. As reported by Reuters, many in the country tweeted recently about the referendum this week regarding the adoption of a new constitution, which illustrates the impact of the communication devices and social media.
Twitter user and Nairobi-based independent analyst Aly Khan Satchu, who has amassed more than 5,000 followers, is quoted in the report as stating of the matter, “We have gone from being able to communicate amongst a few people … to be able to reach thousands of people in one go on a democratic platform. It’s revolutionary, I think.”
Satchu is further quoted as stating, “It is a trend in society where people can actually gather in scale and can respond … going forward, it is going to be an important area for politics and the way the country engages.”
