Many denounce plans for Quran burning

Washington – A number of high profile figures are speaking out against a Florida pastor’s plan to burn the Muslim holy book on September 11. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Defense Secretary Robert Gates denounced the plan this week, warning the event may endanger the lives of Americans in the U.S. and abroad by causing increasingly tense relations.
Clinton is quoted by the AP as stating of the issue, “It is regrettable that a pastor in Gainesville, Fla., with a church of no more than 50 people can make this outrageous and distrustful, disgraceful plan and get the world’s attention, but that’s the world we live in right now… It is unfortunate, it is not who we are.”
