Frisco, Texas – A Frisco nonprofit is seeking to overcome the stigma of discussing issues with child abuse and neglect by raising awareness. As reported by the Frisco Enterprise, C.A.K.E., which stands for Crimes Against Kids Eliminated, is focusing on outreach efforts throughout Dallas and surrounding counties.
Dana Jones, founder and president of C.A.K.E. is quoted in the report as stating of the issue of child abuse in the country, “It is one of those silent crises…There’s still a bit of shame or stigma attached to it. To ensure a healthy community, we have to put it out on the table. I think the answer is through awareness and prevention.”
“We all play a role in helping to ensure very healthy and productive, emotionally stable children will enter the work force…While we’re really good at treating the aftermath of this [abuse], I don’t think we, society, do a lot in the area of prevention.”
