Washington – President Barack Obama recently suggested that the length of time children spend in the classroom be extended during a discussion about the current state of education in the country. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the president spoke of the urgency of education reform on Monday, stating that student should have an extended school year comparable to countries with high achievement levels, and teachers with poor performances should be more adequately trained or dismissed.
Obama is quoted by the AP as stating in an interview with the “Today” show on NBC, “Whether jobs are created here, high-end jobs that support families and support the future of the American people, is going to depend on whether or not we can do something about these schools.”
