Los Angeles – Michael Douglas and Oliver Stone’s sequel to their popular 1987 film “Wall Street” was well received by audiences this weekend, opening in the number one position. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), although “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps” debuted as number one, earning $19 million at the box office, audiences did not come out in mass number for film releases as anticipated over the weekend.
Paul Dergarabedian, box-office analyst for Hollywood.com, is quoted by the AP as stating of the film, which also stars Shia LaBeouf, “I think expectations were pretty high for this movie. That’s not only an iconic character of Gordon Gekko but it’s also an iconic movie… But then, it’s about the world of high finance. That’s not exactly a topic that sets the box office on fire, so I don’t think younger audiences were necessarily going to rush out for something like that.”
