London – A new study suggests working in noisy places may contribute to heart problems. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), researchers found that people exposed to excessive noise at work for extensive periods may have a three times higher risk of having a serious heart condition as opposed to those exposed to quiet work places.
University of Munich professor Martin Halle, who is participating in efforts to promote healthy workplaces for the European Society of Cardiology, is quoted by the AP as stating, “Constant noise could evolve into a trigger for a heart event… You could change your workplace…if it’s too noisy.”
More information about the study may be available in the online publication of the Occupational and Environmental Medicine, a specialist journal of the BMJ.
