New York – The New York Public Library is set to receive personal papers from Maya Angelou. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), over 300 boxes of papers belonging to the writer have been acquired by the library’s unit the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture and are set to be made public.
Angelou, whose list of acclaimed works includes “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings,” is quoted by the AP as stating of seeking out the Harlem institution for placement for the personal papers, which include her own writings as well as letters from notable figures such as Malcolm X, “It is the principal repository in the world of literature and affairs for, by and about African-Americans, in particular, and Africans anywhere in the diaspora.”
