Dallas – More Dallas churches are utilizing social media to reach out to members. As reported by the Dallas Morning News, many have responded to issues such as a decline in attendance by using new media outlets for their ministry.
Mike Buster, executive pastor at Prestonwood Baptist Church, is quoted in the report as stating of the need for such changes, “The larger the church, the more important staying connected with people becomes.”
Buster is further quoted as stating, “The church is truly left behind if it doesn’t go where the people are… It’s imperative to maintain a presence on that social network… We’re using every means possible to take our community to the people.”
As noted in the report, unreleased survey results by Lifeway Research in Nashville, Tenn., an evangelical research firm, show that 47 percent of churches now use Facebook.
