Home Security Technology Grows to Meet 21st Century Social Decay
Property Owners Use CCTV and Alarm Systems as Never Before
Vancouver, Canada - (WiredPRNews.com) There is a sobering statistic published by Vancouver’s Neighborhood Scout web site indicating that citizens have a 1 in 17 chance of becoming a victim of a property crime. By comparison a person has a 1 in 223 chance of being victimized by a crime of violence…still too high a risk to ignore. In August of this year Canada’s largest West Coast city had an overall drop of 7% in crimes of all types reported but there were increases in gun crimes, rapes, theft, and home invasions. In addition to insurance, a citizen also needs pre-emptive protection and a way to let criminals know they are under surveillance and likely will be caught.
In the past when a business or home needed to dissuade trespassers, a vigilant guard dog was present to scare them away with its barking. There were also inexpensive sensors that turn high-beam lights on when anyone approaches. Assuming that burglars keep up with the times and have found their way around such measures, the digital age has made possible hi-tech CCTV systems for cameras to pan, zoom, and videotape anyone approaching or entering a building. Home alarms can notify police or the security company who would in turn call police.
Canada usually suffers a diluted and delayed ripple effect from the policies of the United States that are designed to keep society destabilized and unemployed, leading to more crime. Unemployment must continue because there is a huge surplus of goods already so no new jobs are needed, goods are cheaper to make overseas, and the government offers incentives for companies to outsource. The US policy is to eliminate the middle class so that young unemployed men and women are enticed to join the military as a career, sacrificing life and limb on behalf of the ruling elite.
The number of people incarcerated in the US is almost two and a half million, many of whom will return to prison, having become institutionalized. Penitentiaries have become privatized and their shares are traded on the stock market, providing an incentive for larger prison populations. The jobs that are being created are largely paramilitary in nature: prison guards, police, and making the tools of their trade – riot shields, bullet-proof vests, guns, special vehicles, and the construction of specialized facilities.
?Factors like poverty and drug addiction could be eliminated with such resources. Heroin imports enter North America straight from the record-breaking opium crops in Afghanistan, leading one to ask how this can happen at the same time that military presence is at an all-time high and When the Taliban came to power the opium crops were all but wiped out by 2000. Now that the US is in control Afghanistan supplies over 90% of the world’s heroin. This suggests that American interests lie in destabilizing the population back home and profiteering at the expense of the theft or robbery victims in America as well as Canadian cities like Vancouver where there is a chronic heroin problem. Citizens need to purchase protection from the resulting need for quick cash by way of crime, creating a fertile market for CCTV and alarm security services.
