Birmingham, AL (WiredPRNews) – The 130-year old oak trees at Auburn University’s Toomer’s corner may become hazardous to commuters in the event it dies due to herbicide poisoning, Birmingham AL, tree company spokesman said last week.
What probably started out as a prank by an “Al in Dadeville” is no laughing matter. This person called Paul Finebaum’s talk show and admitted that he poured a lethal dose of herbicide on the two oaks last November 26th 2010 just right after the Iron Bowl game. At this point in time the authorities are doing their best to save the life of the old oaks. “However, in case it still withers and dies, we might consider taking steps to remove them to prevent any hazards from motorists,” said the spokesman of the commercial tree service of Birmingham.
As of this writing, tree specialists are doing everything that they can to save the lives of the two affected trees. Hundreds of tree lovers still visit the two old oaks and hope that they survive this situation. Still, many throw toilet papers on the oak to honor it.
