Austin, TX (WiredPRNews.com) The horror-comedy short film by Geoff McGee, NEAL, enjoyed a packed house and enthusiastic reception during its world premiere at the prestigious South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Conference and Festival on March 11, 2011. The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema hosted a sold-out screening of the film about a swimming pool cleaner/ vacuum named Neal going rogue on a young innocent couple during a romantic late night swim. Much of the film was shot underwater, in High Definition, using the Canon 5D Mark II camera and underwater housing. The underwater production team was led by director of photography Clay Liford (WUSS, EARTHLING). For the 2011 SXSW Film Festival, 153 shorts were selected from 3,089 short film submissions and roughly 300 films were selected from 4,911 overall submissions. The film NEAL will also be screened this year at the DALLAS International Film Festival, at midnight, Saturday, April 2, at the Magnolia Theater and at 10:30 p.m., Friday, April 8, at the Angelika Film Center. The post-screening will feature a Q&A, with director Geoff McGee, producer Carolyn Hodge and music composer Jordan Aveline Blair. The DALLAS International Film Festival presented by Cadillac will run March 31 through April 10, 2011. Passes are currently on sale, tickets go on sale March 17.
