TEL AVIV, Israel (WiredPRNews.com) SpeakingPal, a young startup company that develops English teaching mobile programs aimed at improving speaking skills, today announced their nomination for a 2011 Mobility Award in the Voice Processing category. The company, founded in 2009 and staffed with fewer than ten full- time employees is competing against such giants as Nuance and Sensory. The nomination tops a year-long effort in product development of a unique m-learning (mobile learning) application that uses automatic speech recognition coupled with high-end multi-media learning content designed especially for the mobile. The Mobility Awards, which honor the best mobile products and services in the industry, will announce the winners at the Wireless Innovators Dinner on March 22, at CTIA Wireless 2011 in Orlando, Florida.
“This nomination is very exciting for a small startup company such as ours,” says Eyal Eshed, CEO and co-founder of SpeakingPal. “We are happy to have been able to produce a product of such caliber and innovation that has culminated in being nominated for such a prestigious award. It has been a concentrated effort to produce a highly interactive application that simulates the most natural use of the mobile – talking to another person on the phone – for use in learning programs. There are millions of people the world over that have a burning need to improve their English speaking skills, which we believe will be serviced by SpeakingPal’s learning solution.” Ariel Velikovsky, CTO and co-founder of SpeakingPal, said, “It has been a technological challenge to use automatic speech recognition in m-learning programs, but we have managed to overcome all major issues in order to provide a smooth and seamless user-experience, which is of ultimate importance for any mobile application.” SpeakingPal is one of the first m-learning companies to use automatic speech recognition on the mobile in a language learning program that concentrates on developing higher-level speaking skills such as correct pronunciation and fluency, representing a real step up from the usual word-based programs that are most prevalent in the mobile learning application arena.
