Palm Beach, FL (WiredPRNews.com) Mark Dougan, CEO of Insurance Executives, Inc. was pleased to attend the “It Happened to Alexa” foundation, held at Mar-a-Lago, Donald Trump’s Palm Beach estate, with his twin sister, Jennifer, on March 25, 2011. Mr. Dougan stated:
“Rape is a crime of violence perpetrated by criminals who to feel absolute power over their victim. The ‘It Happened to Alexa’ foundation is truly an amazing cause. I know firsthand of the nonexistent support provided to the victims of violent crime, as well as the suffering and struggle they face in their recuperation. The fact this organization is the first of its kind to support rape victims is to be commended.
I had an opportunity to speak with Alexa Branchini and her parents, and cannot imagine the pain they endured during their ordeal. Alexa is such an amazing young lady and I’m pleased to know the criminal who committed the crime against her has failed. He failed not because he is in jail, but because Alexa used this horrible experience to become a powerful voice for the majority who are not powerful enough to speak on their own. I urge everyone to consider the nightmare they would face if they were a victim of rape, visit the foundation’s web site and give to such a wonderful organization.”
The “It Happened to Alexa” foundation (IHTA) is the only foundation of its kind in the United States, providing direct financial assistance to rape victims’ families for travel-related expenses during the litigation process. After their daughter’s long and traumatic trial ended, the Branchinis realized that many families in similar circumstances would not have the finances to support the travel and lodging costs incurred in an out-of-town trial. They didn’t want a lack of funds to prevent any rape victim from prosecuting her (or his) attacker.
