Portland, OR (WiredPRNews.com) Portland, Oregon based social media marketing and consulting firm, Sparkloft Media, was selected as one of 20 companies in the Tourism Queensland’s Million Dollar Memo campaign. Sparkloft Media is the only shortlisted company from the United States, and if chosen as the final winner will be rewarded with AUD$1 million trip to Queensland, Australia.
“We’re thrilled to represent the U.S. in the Million Dollar Memo competition,” said Martin Stoll, Sparkloft Media’s founder and CEO. “We’re ready to bring some of Portland to Queensland and come back from Australia with a win.”
After submitting a video entry in May, Sparkloft Media was placed in the Top 70 in June before making the Final 20 this month. On August 23rd, each company will send one representative to Queensland, Australia to compete in an eight-day challenge. The winning company will be selected on August 31st.
Arianna Petkevicius, the VP of Social Media Services at Sparkloft Media, will represent her company next month in Queensland. The Million Dollar Memo Team told Petkevicius what to pack and gave her release forms to sign, but other than that she knows little of what to expect. Petkevicius is still confident in a victory.
“While in Portland, we’ve been taking our training all over our great city, but next month I will be put to the test in Queensland and I will be ready,” she said.
Petkevicius added the research and preparation her company has put into the competition has increased awareness that Queensland is ready to share the beauty and adventure of the region in the aftermath of the flooding the area suffered through.
“We are thrilled to be able to help Queensland alert the world that after the floods the region is ready and open for tourists,” Petkevicius said. “In the coming weeks look for Sparkloft Media to share and also put this opportunity to use in order to help the region,” she added.
Even though the final competition is more than a month away, the Sparkloft Media team has and will continue to promote their entry and the campaign. Jan Jarratt, the Minister for Tourism, Small Business and Manufacturing, noted this as a success for many of the companies placed on the Final 20.
“Many of the shortlisted companies have undertaken an impressive amount of creative promotional activity to support their entries,” said Jarratt in a Tourism Queensland press release.
Sparkloft Media’s promotional efforts include creating videos showing their efforts to prepare for Queensland in the streets of Portland. In these videos employees donned wetsuits and snorkels in Keller Fountain Park, Director Park and on TriMet‘s MAX Light Rail in downtown Portland.
Amy Clerget, a Social Media Strategist at Sparkloft Media, said she could almost see herself in the Coral Sea as she wrestled into a dry wetsuit in the middle of downtown Portland on a Friday afternoon.
“If it weren’t for gawking strangers and street cars, I would have thought I were already in Queensland,” Clerget said.
While Tourism Queensland will be out AUD$1 million after the winner is selected, they have more than made up for it. They estimate the campaign has reached 5 million people and the marketing activity undertaken from participating companies is worth an approximate media value of $6 million AUD.
“To date we’ve had 779,000 visits to milliondollarmemo.com and 2.7 million page views and the campaign has generated over $12 million worth of publicity for Queensland around the world, thus far with much more to come,” Jarratt said in a Tourism Queensland press release.
