Dr. Edward M. Hallowell Launches ADHD Self-Assessment iPhone Application

BOSTON, MA (WiredPRNews.com) Child and adult psychiatrist and author Dr. Edward ‘Ned’ Hallowell announced today the release of an ADHD Self-Assessment iPhone App, which provides concerned adults, parents, guidance counselors and teachers with two simple assessment quizzes, resources for helpful follow-up, as well as relevant news and information feeds about ADHD.
“Adults and children living with untreated Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder have trouble focusing, remembering things, and completing tasks once they begin. Often, they don’t realize there is anything they can do; they think it’s just the way they are and will always be,” states Dr. Hallowell. “Yet ADHD is one of the most treatable mental health issues we have. I hope that this iPhone App will be an easy way for people to start the process of learning about whether ADHD affects them.”
The App provides two very important features. First, medically sound quizzes to help the user understand whether or not he/she or a family member might have ADHD and second, information to help users understand how ADHD might affect their own life and their family’s life.
The child assessment quizzes are ideal for teachers, school counselors, and other education professionals in addition to families.
The “Short Quiz” was developed in conjunction with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Workgroup on Adult ADHD. It is statistically valid and will help users assess if further consultation is recommended.
The “Long Quiz” has been used by Dr. Hallowell in his practice to help patients better understand ADHD and its impact on them. Regardless of the quiz results, if users have concerns about diagnosis and treatment of ADHD, they are encouraged to discuss these concerns with their physician.
The new application is compatible with any iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad with iOS 3.0 or greater and is available for $1.99 in the iTunes Store. Content for was written by Dr. Edward M. Hallowell based on his best selling book “Delivered from Distraction” and developed by Roble Ridge Software of Palo Alto, CA.
