Elkhart, TX (Truck accident attorney News)— A two-vehicle crash in East Texas killed a Waco woman and injured four others, when a vehicle crossed the centerline and collided with oncoming traffic. East Texas car accident attorney Gregg Price reports that the fatal crash occurred early Sunday morning, November 13, 2011, on State Highway 19 near the intersection of Farm-to-Market Road 1817, about 11 miles south of Palestine.
According to information provided by KWTX, a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Erik Shawn Green, 30, of Arlington, was headed northbound on Highway 19 when it crossed the centerline and slammed into a southbound 2000 Nissan Xterra, driven by Luebin Garcia, 24, of Waco.
Police arrived at the scene and pronounced Betsy Salazar, 40, of South 14th Street in Waco, dead at the scene. Salazar was a passenger of the Xterra.
Three others who lived at the same address as Salazar, Luebin Garcia, 24, Anna Pecina, 22, and Marysol Pecina, 21, were also injured in the wreck. Responding emergency crews rushed the injured victims to area hospitals for treatment of their injuries.
Garcia was listed in serious condition at Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler as of Monday, while Anna and Marysol Pecina both were listed in critical condition at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
Police are investigating the fatal traffic accident, and what caused Green to cross the centerline.
“Accidents such as these, when another motorist crosses the centerline for seemingly unknown reasons, are some of the most easily prevented automobile accidents,” says Tyler accident lawyer Gregg Price of PRW Lawyers. “Unfortunately these accidents can turn fatal, such as in this case.”
“Vehicle crashes caused by a driver who crossed the centerline into oncoming traffic can be caused by several reasons: inattentive or distracted driving, driver falling asleep behind the wheel, a drunk driver, swerving to miss hitting an animal, or overcorrecting,” says the East Texas injury attorney. “In other states, rumble strips installed in the centerline have shown to get the inattentive driver or sleepy driver’s attention, which may prove helpful in the rural roads of Texas where inattentive or reckless driving may be more prevalent.”
