08/08/2012 (press release: allfencingvideos) // Royal Borough of Greenwich, London, United Kingdom // Trisha Allison
Formerly the Official Web TV of the FIE (Federation Internationale D’Escrime) the worldwide governing body of Olympic Fencing, FencingChannel.TV re-launches today as the AllFencingVideos Blog. AllFencingVideos.com is an educational non-profit devoted to creating full awareness of the beneficial effects on mind, body, and spirit of the Sport of Fencing.
FencingChannel.TV ‘s Priority Mission is to encourage small children to begin taking fencing lessons. Parents, don’t shudder, Special Safety Provisions are made, outlined in US Fencing Association’s and British Fencing’s Handbooks. British Fencing is the controlling body for Fencing in Great Britain (as the UK is still known in Sports Competitions). Their ‘See Fencing Differently’ is also launching today.
“In Russia and Taiwan – even in Scotland – children as young as 5 are fencing, some in Competition” says blogger Trisha-inLondon “12 year old Spanish Fencing Champion Nasim el Jamali Campeon was winning Fencing Competitions when he was only 7.” Trisha, whose following includes fencers like Corinna Lawrence TeamGB, Holly Buechel TeamUSA, and Sarah Daninthe twice World Champion & Olympic Bronze Medallist, adds that Fencing has a superb safety record in Olympic Sports.
“It is a fallacy that Fencing is dangerous” says Gatehouse Media, quoting International Fencing Coach Harry Shamir, who believes that Fencing, if begun young enough, significantly increases IQ. Trisha, a MENSAN and a former foil fencer, agrees with that, as do Mariel Zagunis (2 times Olympic Womens Sabre Gold Medallist) and her Team-mate Tim Morrison, former Olympic Mens Sabre Silver Medallist, currently on a tour of US schools to encourage young American kids to begin fencing. Mariel is still in London, raising Sabre Fencing awareness with British kids.
Fencing is often likened – in terms of mental activity – to Chess played at Lightning Speed, and we all know how brainy Chess Masters are! Fencing also uses every muscle in the entire body, creating a fabulous physique, as Tim recently demonstrated for ESPN magazine’s The Body We Want. Most importantly, huge self discipline is required of the fencer, whether champion or green beginner.
