For the 2013 model year, the Range Rover was completely redesigned to become the first production SUV built on an all-aluminum unibody platform. It appears that change has been met with a very warm welcome from customers, as the 2013 Range Rover not only topped its segment, but all models on the market in the recently released J.D. Power and Associates 2013 Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study.
J.D. Power gathered the feedback of more than 83,000 owners and lessees of 2013-model-year vehicles to determine the most gratifying rides in its 2013 APEAL Study. Evaluating vehicles across 77 attributes of performance and design, the auto-research firm ranked each model based on a 1,000-point scale, with the Range Rover earning the industry’s highest score. The SUV’s achievement marks the first time the vehicle leader of the J.D. Power APEAL Study came from outside the Large Premium Car segment.
“The new Range Rover’s lightweight-yet-strong chassis provides a smoother and more nimble ride, and that’s something that longtime Land Rover customers probably noticed immediately during their daily commutes,” said Dave Edwards, general manager of Land Rover Peabody, a Greater Boston Range Rover dealer. “Owners have also responded positively to the 2013 Range Rover’s sleeker styling, which pulls from the popular Evoque with the swept-back headlights and backwards-sloping roofline.”
Dropping around 700 pounds compared to its predecessor, the 2013 Range Rover offers improved fuel efficiency and better handling, but it does so while retaining, and even refining, the signature capability expected from the Land Rover brand. A next-generation Terrain Response 2 system automatically analyzes driving conditions and selects the optimal terrain program, which then properly adjusts the response of the engine, gearbox, chassis systems and center differential to increase traction.
Land Rover is putting its all-conditions performance on full display this month with Land Rover Expedition America, a cross-country off-roading trip featuring three of its LR4 SUVs. Following the Trans-America Trail for more than 5,000 miles from North Carolina to Oregon, the 2013 Land Rover LR4 models are traversing across mostly dirt and gravel on the excursion, with a few short connections on pavement. Fans can track the adventure on Land Rover’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts.
“There is no other auto brand that can take drivers to such remote locations in the United States with the same level of comfort and luxury as Land Rover,” added Edwards. “The Land Rover LR4 offers 375 horsepower and up to 9.5 inches of ground clearance to get over any obstacles that get in your way, but its four-corner air suspension also ensures that you don’t feel like you’re on a bumpy trail when you’re actually just driving in the suburbs.”
