05/29/2014 (press release: CambridgePRGroup) // BALTIMORE // Russel Volkswagen
Despite the fact that the redesigned 2015 Volkswagen Golf offers more standard features, a more spacious cabin, and improved performance and fuel efficiency across trims, its new limited-availability two-door Golf Launch Edition will cost about $2,000 less than the base 2014 Golf model, priced under $19,000. Perhaps even more impressively, the cost to take home Volkswagen’s fuel-efficient TDI Clean Diesel technology has dropped by more than $3,000 thanks to a new four-door Golf TDI S model that starts at less than $23,000.
When it goes on sale in August, the 2015 Volkswagen Golf will come standard with Bluetooth connectivity, a new 5.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a Media Device Interface with iPod integration. New active-safety technologies have also been introduced to the 2015 Golf, including the standard Automatic Post-Collision Braking System and optional Forward Collision Warning. Outside, the new Golf is wider, lower and longer than its predecessor, yet its weight has decreased by up to 79 pounds depending on the model.
“Today’s compact-car buyers don’t just want an affordable ride; they want one that comes with a range of advanced in-car technology, and the new VW Golf provides a bunch of intuitive features at an incredible value,” said David Wilson, general manager of Russel Volkswagen, a VW dealer in Baltimore. “Not only that, but buyers will be getting better performance and more miles per gallon regardless of the 2015 Golf model that they choose.”
The base engine of the 2015 VW Golf is a new turbocharged and direct-injected 1.8-liter TSI four-cylinder that generates 170 horsepower, the same amount as the larger 2.5-liter naturally aspirated five-cylinder that it replaces. However, torque has been boosted by 23 pound-feet to a total of 200 pound-feet, and the new powerplant is estimated by Volkswagen to be 20 percent more fuel efficient on the highway. Meanwhile, a new turbocharged and direct-injected 2.0-liter TDI Clean Diesel four-cylinder has received a 10-horsepower increase compared to its predecessor, producing a total of 150 horsepower while still churning out 236 pound-feet of torque.
