Altus, OK (WiredPRNews) — With the recent slump in the housing market, the media has steadily pumped negative images and press into the economy forcing buyers and sellers to reevaluate their housing situation and in some cases, intimidating them into staying in their rentals until the dust has settled. In a recent public awareness campaign launched by the Oklahoma Realtors Association (OAR), the negative press is only one side of the story and Realtors in Oklahoma are now telling the public “Good Thing You’re In Oklahoma!”
The $200,000 campaign was brought about to counter the poor image of real estate buying and selling with a positive slogan and a welcome mat to boot. According to RealtyTimes.com, “Statewide, Oklahoma had an increase in home values of 4.2 percent last year, the seventh consecutive year in increases. While total sales were down slightly from a record high in 2006, 2007 was still the in the top three years ever recorded.” These are extremely glowing statistics considering the country’s downshift from houses selling and rates falling like hot potatoes.
So what does Oklahoma have that overstocked-Miami, Florida doesn’t have? For one, the housing in the Sooner state is less expensive. “Less than 5 percent of homes in Oklahoma are under sub-prime mortgages and half the homes have fixed-rate mortgages.” Secondly, there is remarkable job market growth which is sure to lure those Americans who have been displaced and find themselves without a steady income. “In the west, new manufacturing plants are joining the air force base at Altus to produce jobs. Consequently, Altus recorded a 34 percent increase in sales for 2007.”
So far, the campaign has proven not only positive for the OAR, the internal effects have been beneficial as well. “Not only are they seeing their membership dollars at work, they have something positive to say to buyers and sellers.”
