Dallas, Texas (WiredPRNews) — Weather forecasting as literally gone to the dogs!
A report from the Associated Press on Tuesday announced that the Las Vegas weather dog, an 8-month old Lab puppy named Little Jordan, was removed from the air. KVBC-TV’s weather dog was a hit among viewers and they became upset when the the pup had vanished causing a dispute as to why the dog is gone.
Animal-lover and KVBC weatherman, John Fredericks, is the proud owner of Little Jordan and he released a statement last week which noted that “it was the NBC affiliate’s decision to send L.J., as the pup is known, to the doghouse over a contract dispute. The dog ‘was removed from the broadcast … pending the resolution of contractual terms for L.J.'”
The Labrador pup was the loving replacement to Frederick’s previous dog, Jordan, who passed away last summer. Jordan shared the airwaves and participated in weather segments with Fredericks prior to his death. Fredericks then adopted Little Jordan to take the place of the dog that he, along with the viewers of KVBC-TV, had grown to love.
Lisa Howfield, the station manager, noted that it was Fredericks’ decision to remove the puppy from the air. “It was John’s choice to take the dog off the air,” she said. “I would have liked us to keep the dog on the air.”
Fredericks statement said he “wants nothing more than for L.J. to return to the broadcast, and believes that the contractual issues resulting in the current situation will soon by resolved.”
