Much controversy has surrounded the marriage of world renowned pop star Madonna and filmmaker husband Guy Ritchie over the past few months, largely due to speculation that the singer was romantically linked with New York Yankee player Alex Rodriguez. As reported by the Associated Press, after weeks of publicly denying the rumors of a pending split, the couple announced Wednesday that they are indeed filing for divorce. Madonna and Ritchie have been married for eight years, and have two sons, one adopted, together. Madonna also has a daughter from a previous relationship.
Worth an estimated $525 million with homes in the United States and abroad, no reported agreement for asset distribution or custody of their children has been made.
Madonna is a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, who has seen huge success across the globe as a performer for more than two decades. Ritchie directed the couple’s 2002 film collaboration, Swept Away, and other films including the recent release, RocknRolla, featuring rap superstar Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges.
