Wired PR News.com – Technology giant, Microsoft Inc., has turned to past rival, Sun Microsystems Inc., for assistance with marketing to increase online traffic to its website search engine. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the two companies announced an agreement on Monday for the promotion of a Microsoft toolbar.
Microsoft currently ranks number three for Internet searching behind Google and Yahoo. The company is seeking to increase traffic to provide more benefit to advertisers. The new toolbar will reportedly provide users with better access to web content, and enhance search capabilities.
Sun and Microsoft have a history of legal battles, with the latter having to pay Sun an estimated $2 billion in 2004 for a patent and antitrust settlement, as stated by the AP report. The decision to work together is speculated to be partly attributed to the financial losses of the now struggling Sun.
After losing interest in the purchase of Yahoo, Microsoft has announced plans to make investments in improving their own search capabilities.
