Dr. Geetha Raghuveer says “This is a wake-up call” – Recent studies have shown obese children to have the arteries of people over 40, and a heightened risk for heart disease and other complications.
Wired PR News.com –As reported by the Associated Press (AP), a range of studies pertaining to obesity in children have demonstrated that obesity at a young age can lead to serious health complications into adulthood.
The American Heart Association held a conference on Tuesday where findings from studies that provide evidence of aged arteries in children ten and older who are obese, were presented. Statistics have shown that one third of children in the United States are overweight, and a fifth of American children are considered obese.
Some hope that the information presented by these and other studies will help persuade parents, school officials, governmental entities, and others to take more interest in tackling the issue of obesity in children. In regards to the study findings, Dr. Geetha Raghuveer who works at Kansas City’s Children’s Hospital was quoted in the report as stating “This is a wake-up call.”
