Wired PR News.com – The Dallas Independent School District (DISD) is again in the spotlight for alleged bad practices. As reported by the Dallas Morning News, it was recently discovered that the district provided fake social security numbers to some staff members who had been hired from countries outside of the United States. The report states that the practices were utilized to speed up the process of hiring teachers for bilingual classes. However, some of the numbers were already in use by other individuals, which put the district in a position of possibly perpetuating identity theft.
Superintendent Michael Hinojosa stated that the issue was not brought to his attention until after it was revealed in a September investigation. Now the district is under review by the Social Security Administration. Depending on revelations from further investigation, DISD might face charges for criminal activity. One person, fearful that her husband might have been a victim of identity theft by the district, was quoted in the Dallas Morning News as stating “I’m in disbelief…It’s a continuing disappointment with DISD.”
