Wired PR News.com – Steven Soderbergh’s recent film about activist Ernesto “Che” Guevara was a hit among audiences at the Latin Film Festival in Havana, Cuba. As reported by Reuters, the four hour movie was deemed an accurate account of the role Guevara played in the Cuban Revolution.
As quoted in the Reuters report of one audience member, who attended the screening, Eugenio Martinez, “It’s great. It really reflects the life of Che and his fight in Bolivia and how he was assassinated…It’s satisfying to see that his fight was not in vain.”
Actor Benicio Del Toro plays Che in the film that organizers of the festival were once prepared to refuse to include in the showcase if it was shown to attack 82 year-old Cuban leader Fidel Castro. As noted in the report, American director Soderbergh filmed the movie outside of Cuba due to a U.S. embargo against the island.
Soderbergh, an award winning director, commented on his fascination with Guevara, who became known worldwide for his initiatives.
