Many protest Facebook’s removal of breast-feeding photos.
Wired PR News.com – Facebook’s decision to remove some photos from their site that display the exposure of female breasts during breast-feeding has caused a stir online. As reported by Reuters, the social networking site has been the focus of a heated debate on whether such photos are considered indecent.
Barry Schnitt, a spokesperson for the site is quoted by Reuters as commenting, “Photos containing a fully exposed breast (as defined by showing the nipple or areola) do violate those terms (on obscene, pornographic or sexually explicit material) and may be removed… The photos we act upon are almost exclusively brought to our attention by other users who complain.”
Angered users of Facebook have begun an online petition, which has so far garnered over 80,000 names, protesting the treatment of breastfeeding pictures as obscene. Despite the protests, the popular website has remained steadfast in their decision.
