Continual conflicts between Israel and Gaza may compete with the economic crisis for top focus of incoming Obama Administration.
Wired PR News.com – With so many pressing issues to deal with at once, many speculate as to what will be the top priority focus area of the incoming Administration during the initial months of President Elect Barack Obama’s term. For months, it has been assumed that it would be dealing with the current economic crisis. However, as reported by POLITICO, the conflict between Israel and Gaza may trump the focus of previous plans.
As quoted in the POLITICO report of Daniel Levy of the New America Foundation, “For all the talk of putting the [Middle East] conflict on the back burner, it’s going force itself onto the front burner… It could involve the administration very early.”
Obama has reportedly so far remained silent about how to handle the crisis due to President Bush’s still being in office and in command. However, Bush has yet to speak about the crisis, which has so far claimed the lives of 300 Palestinians. Spokesperson for Obama Brooke Anderson was quoted in the report as stating, “President-elect Obama is closely monitoring global events, including the situation in Gaza, but there is one president at a time.”
