Mission Impossible actor tells publication that Scientology helped him conquer challenges brought on by dyslexia.
Wired PR News.com – American actor and strong advocate of Scientology, Tom Cruise, recently spoke candidly about his battle with dyslexia, and how he overcome its challenges. As reported by AFP, Cruise told “XL Semanal” that Scientology teachings drastically helped him improve his ability to read.
The “Valkyrie” star is quoted by AFP as telling the weekly publication, “I asked myself if I was normal or an idiot. I would try to concentrate but I felt anxiety, frustration, boredom. When I graduated from high school in 1980 I was functionally illiterate.” He was further noted as stating, “Nobody gave me a solution and I wanted to know why the system had failed. Finally, as an adult I learned to read perfectly through the method of (Scientology’s late founder) L. Ron Hubbard.”
Some statistics have estimated that three to ten percent of school-aged children are affected by dyslexia.
