Blagojevich impeached by overwhelming majority in Illinois House
Wired PR News.com – Accused Governor of Illinois Rod Blagojevich was impeached by the Illinois House on Friday. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the Illinois House voted 114 to 1 in favor of impeachment. Only 60 votes were necessary for the motion to carry.
The vote will lead to a Senate trial to determine if Blagojevich’s actions should result in loss of his position. The accusations against him include charges that he attempted to sell the open seat of President Elect Barack Obama on the Senate.
A special House committee report released Thursday contained the statement, as quoted by the AP, “The citizens of this state must have confidence that their governor will faithfully serve the people and put their interests before his own… It is with profound regret that the committee finds that our current governor has not done so.”
