December totals for job losses help bring unemployment to the highest in 16 years.
Wired PR News.com – U.S. unemployment rates have reached the highest levels in 16 years, and are steadily increasing. As reported by AFP, the total number of job losses for the nation had risen to 2.6 by the end of 2008, as illustrated in a report released by the Labor Department on Friday.
Scott Brown of Raymond James & Associates is quoted as commenting in regards to the report, “When you go through the details it was very bad… It should light a fire under lawmakers to act quicker and bolder.”
In agreement with the view of the report signaling a need for a hasty response from lawmakers, Harry Reid, who is Senate majority leader, is further quoted as stating, “If anyone needed more evidence of how urgently we must pass an economic recovery plan that creates jobs, invests in America and puts the middle class first, you need to look no further than today’s staggering job-loss numbers.”
