Roland Burris is set to be seated in Senate after weeks of controversy.
Wired PR News.com – The Senate has accepted Rod Blagojevich’s choice for replacing President Elect Barack Obama after weeks of objections from Democrats. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Burris is expected to be sworn in this week as attempts are made to move on from the scandal surrounding his seating.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is quoted in the AP report as releasing a joint statement with Illinois Senator Dick Durbin stating, “He is now the senator-designate from Illinois and, as such, will be accorded all the rights and privileges of a senator-elect.”
Burris was previously rejected from the post due to his appointment being the choice of Illinois Governor Blagojevich, who has been charged with attempting to trade the position on the Senate for personal gain.
A specific time for Burris to be sworn in has yet to be set.
