Some Republicans break ranks and agree to back Stimulus Bill.
Wired PR News.com – Democrats and a handful of Republicans came to an agreement on Friday for an emergency stimulus plan. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), a few Republicans broke from the stance of the majority of their party members and agreed to back the proposed bill.
Republican Senator Susan Collins is quoted as stating, “The American people want us to work together. They don’t want to see us dividing along partisan lines on the most serious crisis confronting our country.”
As noted in the AP report, a final vote on the bill is not expected to be made earlier than Monday. Robert Gibbs, White House Press Secretary, remarked Friday night of the turn of events, “On the day when we learned 3.6 million people have lost their jobs since this recession began, we are pleased the process is moving forward and we are closer to getting Americans a plan to create millions of jobs and get people back to work.”
