Obama travels to Florida Tuesday for stimulus backing.
Wired PR News.com – President Barack Obama is traveling to Florida on Tuesday to garner support for the stimulus plan. As reported by Reuters, a final ballot for the Senate is scheduled for 12:00 noon Tuesday as well.
Many anticipate the passing of the now $838 billion package, which will then be finalized between the House of Representatives and Senate. Obama has expressed intentions of having a finalized product ready to be signed by next Monday.
Over the course of the past few days, Obama has emphasized the urgency of passing the plan to prevent complete economic destruction, and responded to continued criticism of the spending elements of the bill by the GOP. The president is quoted as stating Monday night, “It’s a little hard for me to take criticism from folks about this recovery package after they’ve presided over a doubling of the national debt… I’m not sure they have a lot of credibility when it comes to fiscal responsibility.”
Obama is set to hold a town hall meeting upon arriving in Florida and be introduced by Charlie Crist, the state’s governor. The Republican governor is quoted in the Reuters report as stating, “I am eager to welcome President Obama to the Sunshine State as he continues to work hard to reignite the US economy… Any attempts at federal stimulus must prioritize job creation and targeted tax relief for small business owners.”
