Miami, FL- (WiredPRNews.com) — February 13, 2009- Revolution Fighting Championship, a fast-growing South Florida professional mixed martial arts (MMA) promoter, has committed $1 from each purchase of its February 20 Internet pay-per-view broadcast to an important cause. The Ray Mendoza Leadership Fund provides monetary support for the families of military casualties from the state of Ohio, as well as leadership programming for wrestling and MMA related programs. This fund provides the majority of financial support for the Ray Mendoza Leadership Institute at the John Glenn School of Public Affairs at Ohio State University.
Major Ray Mendoza died in combat in Iraq in 2005 at the age of 37, and is survived by his wife and two children. Mendoza led an impressive and successful career both as a military leader, combat sports instructor, and competitor. He was a pillar of the All Marine Wrestling team, winning the support of Former Senator and Marine Aviator John Glenn. Together, their mission to develop tomorrow’s leaders extends to developing USA Wrestling Olympic hopefuls as well as rising MMA stars, including Mo Lawal and Tommy Rowlands.
The February 20 Revolution Fighting Championship will be broadcast live via the Internet from the Olympia Theater and the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Miami. The ten bout event begins at 8PM and includes the first ever Florida State MMA Title Championship, as well as the pro MMA debut of US Olympic Judo Team member, Adler Volmar, as he faces Carlos Zevallas. The Internet broadcast is provided through Revolution Fighting Championship’s technology agreement with Akamai, a world leader of web services providing content to consumers. Revolution Fighting Championship has four additional events announced for 2009.
