The bacteria that causes the disease is found in an Atlanta medical facility.
WiredPRNews.com – Legionnaire’s bacteria has been found in Atlanta, Georgia’s largest hospital. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the bacteria has reportedly been linked to the possible illnesses of four individuals treated at Grady Memorial Hospital.
Legionnaire’s is typically spread via the inhalation of vapors or mist from items such as air conditioners, showers, and spas. As noted by the AP, legionella bacteria were confirmed through lab tests to be found in water samples from two floors of the hospital. Some patients from these floors were reportedly infected with the disease. Although it can be fatal, the conditions of the infected patients were not, with three being treated and released, and one still hospitalized.
Several beds remain unused by patients while additional testing and cleaning of the contaminated water system is completed.
