Research leads to discovery that may help adults grow new teeth.
Wired PR News.com – A new scientific discovery may be the link needed to one day lead to the ability of adults to grow new teeth after the loss of their old ones. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), geneticists from the University of Rochester recently released reports pertaining to new information discovered about a gene that appears to hinder additional tooth formation in adult humans. The scientists view the discovery as a possible clue to why species like sharks can grow more than one row of teeth, which may lead to better solutions for individuals who suffer from tooth loss or substantial decay.
Dr. Songtao Shi of the University of Southern California School of Dentistry is quoted in the AP report as stating of the discovery in regards to furthering his research on growing new teeth, “It’s exciting. We’ve got a clue what to do.”
