A study shows stalking via text message to be a troublesome growing trend.
WiredPRNews.com – Stalkers are said to be increasingly using text messaging as a means to harass their victims. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the increase in text messaging over the past few years has led to an increase in what has been termed “textual harassment.”
As stated in the report, in a study released by the Bureau of Justice Statistics of the U.S. Justice Department, research showed that cyber stalking with the use of text messaging or emailing was a factor in 23 percent of reported stalking or harassment cases in 2006. As quoted of the authors of the agency’s report by the AP, “Technology has become a quick and easy way for stalkers to monitor and harass their victims.”
Many states have taken measures to deal with the issue by enacting anti-stalking legislation that includes electronic communications in their definitions.
