The president tells the talk show host that he is stunned by the insurance giant’s bonus payouts.
Wired PR News – President Barack Obama appeared on “The Tonight Show” Thursday as the first sitting president to guest on the program. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Obama stated to the show’s host Jay Leno that he was stunned by the bonuses paid to executives by insurance giant AIG.
Obama is quoted as stating, “We’re going to do everything we can to get these bonuses back” and that he found it difficult to believe that the individuals would accept the payments considering the circumstances. Obama is further quoted as stating, “People just had this sense of entitlement. We must be the best and the brightest.”
Obama also came to the defense of Secretary Treasury Timothy Geithner, quoted as stating in the report, “I think Geithner is doing an outstanding job… He is a smart guy. He is a calm and steady guy. I don’t think people fully appreciate the plate that was handed him.”
