The Secretary of State announces plans for piracy protection.
Wired PR News – Secretary of State Hilary Clinton has announced plans of the Obama administration to help combat piracy off the Somalia coast. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Clinton listed initiatives such as freezing the booty of pirates, calling meetings with an international task force as well as Somali officials, and other steps to diplomatically handle the pressing matter.
As noted by the AP, Defense Secretary Robert Gates also remarked on the piracy issue Wednesday in regards to his view that the Pentagon should purchase a larger number of ships, planes, and weaponry, regardless of whether they are in perfect condition. Gates is quoted by the AP as stating of the issue, “As we saw last week, you don’t necessarily need a billion-dollar ship to chase down a bunch of teenage pirates.”
