Some predict the return of the swine flu outbreak next winter.
Wired PR News – The swine flu outbreak may reemerge next winter. As reported by HealthDay News, some experts are saying that the flu will likely reappear like other seasonal flu viruses after leaving during the summer months.
Dr. Len Horovitz with New York City based Lenox Hill Hospital is quoted in the report as stating, “We can’t actually be certain, but there likely will be a reemergence… We’re seeing this virus at a time that is usually the end of the flu season, so you would expect, because the flu virus is hardier in cold weather, that there will probably be a return.”
Dr. Luis Z. Ostrosky of the University of Texas Medical School in Houston is further quoted by HealthDay as stating, “if you draw parallels to previous flu pandemics, the pattern has always been a mild epidemic in the early summer or late spring, then you see a larger epidemic in the winter… If this were to follow the pattern of previous outbreaks, we would see it again in the winter.” Ostrosky is also said to note that a vaccine for the virus will likely be available at that time.
