Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio help the last survivor of the Titanic.
Wired PR News – The stars of the 1997 blockbuster hit Titanic have lent a helping hand to the last survivor of the real sunken ship. As reported by Access Hollywood, Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio have donated to a fund to assist 98 year-old Millvina Dean with paying her nursing home bills.
As noted in the report, photographer Don Mullan made a plea to the stars as well as the film’s director, 20th Century Fox, and singer Celine Dion to help Dean, who’s been struggling financially. The photographer raised some funds for her by selling a limited edition photo of Dean’s hands, which is now part of an exhibition titled, “A Thousand Reasons for Living.” Mullan is quoted as stating to the Irish Independent newspaper, “I figured that if the edition sold out, it would secure Millvina for a full year. My plan, however, was to double the impact and thereby secure her for two years. I decided, therefore, at the opening of the exhibition, to publicly challenge James Cameron, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, 20th Century Fox and Celine to match me dollar for dollar.”
