Obama to Try and Block Release of Prisoner Abuse Photos

The president will reportedly seek to block the release of photos showing prisoner abuse.

Wired PR News – President Barack Obama is reportedly seeking to block the release of photos that show abuse of prisoners by U.S. troops. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the president stated his intentions Wednesday, citing their release as having the potential to put U.S. troops in Afghanistan and Iraq at risk.

Obama is quoted by the AP as stating of the photos, “This is not a situation in which the Pentagon has concealed or sought to justify inappropriate action… In fact, the most direct consequence of releasing them, I believe, would be to further inflame anti-American opinion and to put our troops in greater danger.” Obama further stressed in his statement, however, “Any abuse of detainees is unacceptable. It is against our values. It endangers our security. It will not be tolerated.”
