An assistant principal in New York City died of the swine flu on Sunday.
Wired PR News – An assistant school principal in New York City passed away on Sunday from the swine flu. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Mitchell Wiener, who worked for the Susan B. Anthony Intermediate School in Queens is the first NYC death from the illness and the sixth person to die from swine flu in the United States. As noted by the AP, the 55 year-old had been working in the teaching field since 1978.
Health Commissioner Thomas Frieden is quoted by the AP as stating of the spread of the virus in the city, “We are now seeing a rising tide of flu in many parts of New York City… With the virus spreading widely, closing these and other individual schools will make little difference in transmission throughout New York City, but we hope it will help slow transmission within the individual school communities.”
