Marietta, GA. (WiredPRNews.com) ICE Components, Inc., a leading supplier of innovative magnetic solutions for the power electronics market, announces a major breakthrough in SMT current sense transformers. ICE’s CT02 series uses a patent pending bobbin design to increase isolation and decrease the primary DCR in a smaller package. This improved design allows for a 33% reduction in CT footprint, a 300% increase in current rating and a 300% increase in hi-pot rating. The design meets basic insulation requirements for low-voltage EN60950 applications.
The CT02 series is 6.4mm long x 6.0mm wide x 4.6mm high maximum with turns ratios ranging from 1:50 to 1:250, volt-second ratings up to 20 V-usec, and minimum secondary inductance values ranging from 0.44mH to 11.1mH. ICE’s CT02 current sense transformers are used in DC/DC converters, intermediate bus converters power supplies for telecom applications and power supplies for microprocessors.
ICE’s CT02 series offers many advantages over current SMT CT’s presently used in these applications:
• Improved current rating due to the lower primary DCR. Patent pending bobbin design minimizes the conductor path.
• Footprint is 33% smaller that competitive designs. Allows smaller board size to increase power density of converters.
• Improved hi-pot rating of 1,500VAC. Provides a solution for a wide range of applications that previously had to use thru-hole CT’s.
• Improved frequency range. Small size minimizes parasitics, allowing operation in higher frequency applications.
“The CT02 series solves a lot of the problems with earlier SMT CT designs. The patent pending design reduces the footprint while increasing both the current rating and hi-pot rating of the part.” says Robin Benas, engineering manager for ICE Components. “Earlier SMT CT designs are only rated to 500V hi-pot. The CT02 brings a small SMT solution to a wide variety of applications that need the reduction in size to meet their design demands.”
Parts in this series are available in tape and reel. Individual parts pricing varies based on volume, configuration and shipping destination. Detailed product specifications and mechanical drawings are available on ICE’s website www.icecomponents.com/c-86-CT02.aspx.
