The former Vice President discusses his views on gay marriage.
Wired PR News – Former Vice President Dick Cheney expressed his beliefs on gay marriage Monday. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Cheney remarked on the issue in a speech to the National Press Club, stating he supported the rights of gay couples to marry, but believed it to be a state issue, and not a decision the federal government should make.
Cheney is quoted by the AP as stating, “I think, you know, freedom means freedom for everyone… I think people ought to be free to enter into any kind of union they wish, any kind of arrangement they wish.” Cheney further commented, “And I think that’s the way it ought to be handled today, that is, on a state-by-state basis. Different states will make different decisions. But I don’t have any problem with that. I think people ought to get a shot at that.”
Cheney also discussed wartime policies of the Bush Administration during the speech.
