Wired PR News – Law News Distribution — Bausch and Lomb Inc., has settled numerous lawsuits against it pertaining to the development of eye fungal infections in product users. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the company has settled approximately 600 lawsuits to the tune of $250 million, and has dozens more claims still to deal with.
As noted by the AP, over 700 people in the United States and Asia have claimed to have been exposed to Fusarium keratitis by using Bausch and Lomb’s contact solution ReNu with MoistureLoc. The infection, which can lead to blindness, has reportedly led to numerous individuals needing corneal transplants, having to have eye removal surgery, and other issues. A global recall was announced by the company in 2006.
As further noted in the report, the FDA is reportedly set to impose stricter testing standards for contact lens solutions.
