Wired PR News – A Los Angeles police detective has been charged with capital murder stemming from a decades old case. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), veteran LAPD detective Stephanie Lazarus has been charged with the 1986 murder of Sherri Rasmussen, who was the wife of her ex-boyfriend.
As noted by the AP, Lazarus has been on the Los Angeles police force for over twenty years, having served for two during the time of the murder. She reportedly was not deemed an official suspect at the time of the killing because of other leads. However, a DNA match linked Lazarus to bite marks found on the victim’s body.
As further noted in the report, Lazarus was arrested last week, and is set to have her arraignment, which began on Tuesday, continued on July 6.
