A London woman plans to sue over asbestos found in her home.
Mesothelioma Cancer News (South London) – A London woman is reportedly planning a lawsuit against her local council authority after finding asbestos in her home. As reported by BBC News, Karen Connelly, 44, plans to sue Southwark Council to facilitate a change in laws to force Councils to inform tenants of asbestos issues in their homes.
As noted in the BBC report, Connelly has been seeking to be rehoused after asbestos was found in her residence in 2007 by workmen. She is quoted in the report as stating, “I want the law to be changed so that it’s compulsory that when someone goes to live in council property it’s made clear in the tenancy agreement about the existence and extent of asbestos in that property… They won’t help me get out and they not accepting liability. I’m left on my own and all I can do is shout so that other people don’t go through the same.”
